Ride Description:

With 190curves including 12 switchbacks in 12miles this is a challenging ride and this route competes well with "The Dragon". This ride could be wet (hazardous) in the spring or after heavy rains. Watch for leaves in the fall.

Uphill or downhill this is a ride that will keep your attention on the road. Watch the unpaved turnouts with loose gravel.

At the top of the ride is Little Switzerland with a number of shops and restaurants as well as lodging. At the bottom turn right on 221 for a ride into Marion for food, fuel and eats.

If you want to ride this road down and then back up, there is a big paved church parking lot near the bottom which is a great place to turn around and catch up with your fellow riders before you head back up.

On nice weekend days, watch for the photographer "Blind Kenny" (Check out www.blindkenny.com) taking pictures of the bikes, sports cars and SKATEBOARDERS on the hill. Visit his website to see and/or order the pictures Ken and Donna Behm have taken

If you are riding the Blue Ridge Parkway the Little Switzerland turn off is at approximately at mile 335.

This ride is great just as a destination and definitely worth the side trip if you're on the Parkway or in the area. There's a Wal-Mart with a big parking lot in Marion if you're trailering your bike.

Also look for NC-80 a little further South on the Parkway.
