Ride Description:
Starting in Southwest Alabama on the banks of the Tombigbee River at Jackson (app. 70 mi north of Mobile), US Highway 69 takes a meandering diagonal across the state to end at beautiful Guntersville on the Tennessee River in Northeast corner of the state near the Juncture of Georgia-Tennessee-Alabama.
The route takes in everything from flat to rolling farmlands, hills and curves, and some fairly good "Baby Mountains" in the Tuscaloosa-Jasper stretch. As always, some animal hazards are to be cautioned in rural riding.
Fuel up in Jackson or Coffeeville and you should be fine until Linden or Greensboro; fuel options are very limited in the southern leg.
Tuscaloosa, Jasper, and Cullman all have good facilties and eating options.
Guntersville has a great State Park Lodge with excellent dining. If you are making the trip in reverse, Jackson has some comfortable lodging and adequate restaurants. Mobile and the Alabama or Mississippi Coasts are just an additional hour to two hours away from the end of the ride in Jackson and are quickly reached down the four-lane US Highway 43.
