Ride Description:

This route exits Redding, CA north through Mt Shasta then heads west out of Yreka on Hwy 3 to SR-96 south along the Klamath River. Eventually it connects on hwy 299 where you cast head east back to Redding. Great mountain, forest, and river, scenery through the entire trip. Plan either a long day or an overnight ride if you want to stop and enjoy the scenery. The initial I-5 portion of the trip goes quick through the mountains getting you to Yreka in about 90 minutes Points of interest along this part of the route are Castle Craigs and Mt Shasta. The rest of the trip including SR-96 is extremely windy and sometimes slow going. Happy Camp might be a good mid point for this ride ... information on accommodations can be seen here: www.klamathriverresortinn.comWeather can be severe during the winter in this region so its recommended to check conditions prior to traveling in the spring / fall.
