Ride Description:

This ride description begins in Jackson, AL about 1 hour north of Mobile, AL. Hwy 43 is a major four lane from Mobile to Thomasville, AL which is also part of the described route.

The Hwy 43 and 69 interchange is notable by the 69 overpass above Hwy 43. This is the starting point.

Hwy 69 actually begins at Jackson and continues north all the way to Guntersville, AL in the northeast corner of the state. But that is for another route and discussion.

With a full tank of gas from Jackson, you should have no problem taking in this whole route. If fuel is needed along the way, Coffeeville, Sweetwater, Dixons Mills, Thomasville, and Grove Hill are the most reliable for seven day fuel availability.

Food can be obtained in the same locations, but for sit down eating I recommend Thomasville or Jackson. Grove Hill has limited restaurants and Coffeeville is a Convenience Store type establishment.

The roads designated in this ride are good for the most part, but caution is advised to watch out for animals including deer, raccoon, possum, armadillo, coyote, etc.

Also, there will be a good bit of logging truck activity in this region duing the week and there may be dirt, tire tread, and wood trash encountered although I have not had any major issues.

The route intersects the major highways of Hwy 43 (four-lane) and 84 (currently two-lane) at several points on the compass. Hwy 10 is also touched on the northern portion of the route.

Those coming from Mobile area would likely travel north on Hwy 43. Coming from Mississippi, Hwy 84 or 10 would likely be the first points of contact to the route.

This is a very relaxing, scenic, and exhiliarating ride as some of the curves and hills get pretty impressive. Not by Appalachian standards, but pretty good riding for the Coastal Plains region which is usually pretty flat and boring.

Hope you enjoy!
