Ride Description:

Extended ride to Laughlin, NV that detours through Oatman down a section of route 66 then into Laughlin from the south.

Exit Las Vegas south on hwy 95 continuing through Boulder City to a nice canyon run over the Hoover Dam into AZ. From there continue south on hwy 93 on a straight open desert stretch for 68 miles to Kingman, AZ. Take hwy 40 south for about 4 miles and exit on hwy 10 / Oatman road. This section of road is 23 miles long and ascends up a very windy, narrow road with nice views along the way. This stretch might not be recommended to new riders as there are some very tight hairpin turns ... the road traveling over the pass has no shoulder and no guard rails.

Oatman itself is an old mining town with lots of tourist attractions if you have the time to check it out. Watch for wild burros in and outside the Oatman area. Information on Oatman can be seen here: http://www.oatmangoldroad.com

Exit Oatman on Route 66 heading south for 44 miles to Mohave Valley Hwy north. Turn left on 95 / Harbor ave and follow down around Hwy 40 where the road tuns into Needles Hwy and head north. You do have the option to take 95 north to Laughlin but Needles hwy is definetely the road less traveled with less traffic.

Once in Laughlin, home of the Laughlin River Run (a major bike event in the spring ... http://www.laughlinriverrun.com ) take hwy 163 west over the mountains back down to why 95 north returning to Las Vegas. The last stretch of hwy 95 is about 55 miles and also straight open desert hwy. The scenic part of the ride south of Laughlin breaks the straight sections of hwy and is worth while. Watch out for loose gravel on the road as well as animals when you are off the major hwys.
