Ride Description:
Circumnavigation of Utah lake traveling through the north and south section of the Uinta National Forest. Check weather and road conditions prior to travel due to seasonal restrictions.
Exit Provo north on hwy 189. Travel 12 miles to hwy 92 / Alpine Loop Scenic byway to the north (left). There is a toll for this section of road which is usually waived for travelers going straight through and not stopping to use the recreational facilities (check with toll attendant). From here you will ascend over a steep, windy mountain pass then descend into canyons to the I-15. Take hwy 15 south for about 4 miles and exit on hwy 73 / Main St. heading west for another 4 miles to hwy 68 south / Redwood Rd. Its recommended to check fuel levels prior to traveling around the west side of Lake Utah as gas stations become scarse.
Follow hwy 68 around the west shores of Lake Utah through low hills to hwy 6 where you turn east (left) to Goshen. In Goshen turn south (right) on Goshen Canyon Rd which eventually merges west on hwy 54 to Mona. In Mona turn south on hwy 91 to hwy 132 east. After about 6 miles take Salt Creek Canyon north which turns into the Nebo Loop Scenic Byway. Lots of steep, winding turns along this section of road which travels up over 9000' in elevation with lots of great high altitude views.
Eventually you will ascend into Payson where you take why 198 east to E Powerhouse Rd to I-6 south where you immediately marge back onto why 89 north taking you back to Provo.
