Ride Description:

2 Day trip to the Northern CA coast. Nice roads as well as mountain & coastal scenery.

Exit Redding west on hwy 299 for 140 miles hitting the Pacific coastline in Arcata, CA. Exit Eureka south on hwy 101. In 60 miles at Myers Flat take the Avenue of the Giants scenic byway as an alternate route through the Redwood Forest. This byway is roughly 15 long and will take about 45 minutes depending on traffic. Marge back on hwy 101 south and at Legget take hwy 1 along the coastline through Fort Bragg and Mendacino. This section is also slow due to traffic and windy roads. Exit hwy 128 for 50 miles to Mountain House Rd north to Hwy 175 West. Lots of tight curves and technical riding on this stretch of hwy 175 to where it joins with hwy 29. Continue around the south side of Clear Lake to hwy 53 north then to hwy 20 west which you follow to Interstate 5 in Willaims, 100 miles south / 1.5 hours back to Redding.

A recommended mid point for the trip would be anywhere from Arcata to Mendacino. Lots of campgrounds and there are hotels in Arcata, Eureka, Fort Bragg, and Mendacino. Plan on cold weather along the coastline.
