Ride Description:

This a beautiful ride, particularly from south to north. Recommended stopping points include Elk Lake, Mt Bachelor Ski Resort (lifts open in the summer), and Sunriver.

Exit La Pine north on Huntington Rd to S Century Dr west. Follow to Cascade Lakes Hwy North. You may also follow signs to Cultus Lake where you'll find a good restaurant in the summer with a family resort atmosphere. Continuing north look for Lava, Hosmer and Elk Lake. Elk has a beach area with tables that you can ride right up to for photos and nice place for a picnic lunch. You might even try a dip in the lake in the heat of summer, quite refreshing.

Further north is Sparks, Lake, Devils Lake, and various day hike opportunities, such as Todd and Green Lakes. Mt. Bachelor Ski Resort offers summer lift rides to the mid mountain lodge where the restaurant overlooks a spectacular view of Three Sisters Wilderness. Heading due East, you see the turn off to Sunriver (If you continue East you will hit Bend Oregon, a fun place that deserves another entry). Heading south on NFD 4020, you encounter fast sweepers (even better south to north). You will eventually connect to NFD 41 east to Spring River road. Turn north on S Century Dr to Sunriver then croos over to the 97 / Dalles California Hwy south back to La Pint.

Lots of side roads to explore along this route. Caution: Sometimes roads are not open until after Memorial Day.
