Ride Description:

This is absolutely the route you want to take as a junction from So Cal to the Reno / Tahoe area, or Las Vegas if you are crossing over Death Valley. Great scenery and very low traffic.

Mainly open desert on the south side but some altitude changes and mountain passes as you get further north (carbureted bikes beware). There will be snowfall on the higher parts of this route in the winter and it will be hot on the lower parts in the summer ... Owens Lake is just 1 valley over from Death Valley.

Lone Pine has a few places to stop. Bishop is your best option for choice of food / hotels. Bridgeport is another further north and also a popular bike destination.

Lots of national parks including Yosemite just to the west of Mono Lake. Again the scenery on this route is amazing so plan some extra time to enjoy it. Aside from the small towns there are plenty of vista points along the way.
