Ride Description:

Starting and Ending at Moraine Valley Community College in Palos Hills IL, this loop starts in typical suburban settings but soon travels through some nice areas of the south western Cook County forest preserve. Mid-loop you pass trough Lock Port and Lemont, great smaller towns with somewhat of a historic fell. Then it's back through the CCFP and ending back at MVCC.

Traffic can be heavy at places during rush hour. But early weekend mornings you own the roads. It's nice to pass under the CCFP tree canopy on a scortching August day where the cooler night air is still held in place through mid-morning. It's better than air conditioning. But watch out for deer in the wooded areas. I've seen as many as 8 traveling together in this area with no fear of humans.

Warning, this loop invites a lot of experimentation which can really stretch out the ride. Wander into the interior of the loop on Bell, Will Cook or Wolf and find some more great scenery.

The route is small bike friendly. I ride this loop on my 1980 Honda Twinstar (200 cc). At 260 lbs (in full gear), I still have no problem keeping up with the traffic. The speed limits are mostly 45 MPH, with some 35 MPH and 55 MPH zones. If you're comfortable going 55 -60 MPH for short streatches then the loop is do-able.
