Ride Description:

Nice trip around the NW corner of AZ along parts of old Route 66 and other less traveled desert highways.

Exit the Phoenix area north on hwy 17. Expect a drop in temperature as you ascend into the mountains near Black Mile Canyon. In Corder Junction take route 69 to Prescott Valley. Traffic enforcement is heavy in this area. Pass through Prescott either by way of the bypass (mapped) or by heading through the town. Take route 89 north to Hwy 40. Take 40 west to Seligman where you exit on route 66 which loops north of the 40 back through Kingman and ascends up a windy mountain to Oatman. Be sure to look back at the views on the way up. Oatman is an old mining town with lots of tourist attractions if you want to spend the time.

Continue south to Hwy 40 then go east a few miles to 95 south down to Lake Havasu City. Lots of places in Lake Havasu to break and eat at. Continue south on 95 as it snakes along the river / CA boarder and through the Buckskin Mountain State Park. Lots of unique rock formations and great canyon scenery in this area. Continue through Parker and stay left on the 72 to the 60 NE to Buckeye Solome Rd which connects back on the Hwy 10 East a few miles outside of Phoenix. Lots of open desert scenery on the last portion of this ride.

Roadways along this road are typical desert highway condition. Not a lot of normal traffic but expect RVs and tourists on these routes esp during the tourist seasons. This ride would take one full day to accomplish but could be easily be broken into 2 for those who want to take their time and look around. Phoenix & Havasu area are exceptionally hot during the summer and the north part of this ride gets cold in the winter so plan / dress accordingly.
