Ride Description:

California Pacific Coast Hwy (PCH) / Hwy 1 from San Francisco south to Orange County / Dana Point. This is the southern half of one of the most scenic routes in the country that takes along the southern California coastline.

Unlike the northern portion of this route, the south half takes you along more town and beach shoreline as well as mountain and coastal cliffs. Traffic however is still slow going especially during the summer / tourist season. Consequently this particular stretch of the PCH would most definitely be a 2 day + ride (take the 101 if you are in a hurry). A good midpoint would be Morrow Bay or San Luis Obispo depending on what type of accommodations you prefer.

Route passes through numerous national and state parks with plenty of locations to stop and look around depending on your personal interests. Making a list of options would be too long so just use the google to check whats available or click on one of the below links.

Nice temperatures pretty much year round on this portion of the route. Rain can get heavy in the winter and fog is common along in certain areas. Roadways are good but watch for rocks and gravel washed onto the roadways especially in the Big Sur area. Most importantly bring a camera.
