Ride takes you from Tuscon to Summerhaven at the top of Mt Lemmon by way of the Catalina Hwy beginning in NE Tuscon.
The stretch of road from where Catalina Highway begins to incline is knows as one of the most scenic highways in the southwest due to its rapid ascent and diverse environment. In just 27 miles you go from baron desert to high altitude mountain scenery (9000'). Incredible rock, canyon, forest, and mountain views all the way up.
Road surface is in good condition. Low traffic. It gets cold in the high altitude portion of the ride with snow in the winter season. There are places to eat and rest at the top on Summerhaven. The road continuing to the other side is dirt so plan on a return trip down.
