Ride Description:
Great ride into the Sierras. Lots of great mountain scenery and good roads.
Take I-80 20 miles west of Sacramento to Auburn. Exit on Auburn Ravine Rd towards Foresthill. When you get to forest hill make a right on Mosquito Ridge Rd which takes you all the way to French Meadows Reservoir.
Traffic enforcement is heavy on this route. Lots of CHP on I-80 and rangers on Mosquito Ridge. Also watch for animals and sand / gravel that sometimes gets on the roadway especially after storms.
The road itself is in excellent condition. Gets especially curvy after Forest hill as you ascend into the mountains. No guard rails on some of the higher roads so be careful. Ride takes you up about 4000' so dress accordingly. Also lots of side roads to explore in the area for those who have the time.
