Ride Description:

Nice ride through the Sequoia National Park with great scenery and roadways.

Exit Fresno east on the 180 / Kings Canyon Rd then take Dunlap road through Dunlap to the 245 south. After Badger stay to the right and follow the 245 down from the foothills into the valley around Elderwood and into Woodlake. Mountain House Bar is a good stopping point about 1/2 through this portion of the ride.

From there take the hwy 198. This is where the scenery gets interesting as it takes you around the south shores of Lake Kaweah and ascends up into the mountains of the Sequoia National Park. On this part of the ride you will have spectacular views of the mountains and valleys, rock formations, and sequoia trees that grow up to 300' high. Eventually the 198 winds back around to the west joining you to the 180 which returns you to Fresno.

There are not many gas stops in the foothills and higher elevation portions of this ride and there are drastic temperature changes from the valley floor and the Park so plan accordingly. Nice ride overall with lots of view points and places to stop and look around if you want to spend the extra time. Watch for sand at the end of the winter months and pine cones in the fall.
